JJPH has bought a 6435 pannier tank steam locomotive, and an auto coach, to run on the popular West Somerset Railway in Somerset.
Built in Swindon in 1937, it had completed 570,000 miles by the time it was withdrawn from service in 1964.
It was then purchased by the Dart Valley Railway, arriving in Buckfastleigh in October 1965 and, in the 1970s was transferred to the Dart Valley Company’s Paignton to Kingswear line.
It was later purchased by the Bodmin & Wenford Railway in Cornwall, where it had an overhaul in 2012, and operated until 2022.
Jonathan Jones-Pratt, founder and Chairman of JJPH, is also Chairman of West Somerset Railway.
He said: “These are unique GWR assets which would compliment any heritage railway.
“They have been hand-picked for the West Somerset Railway, which operates a wonderful branch line. Given the focus on reducing costs, 6435 offers us this, and, together with the auto coach, will bolsters our heritage fleet.
“We look forward to seeing them operating in the near future.”
